August 2007

Yep.. Finally got the chance to watch it. (I’m sick so I decided to rest for the day, chill, and watch DVDs.)

I’m giving it a 8.5 out of 10. Natalie Wood did an awesome job of playing the role of “Maria.” Plus, she had this pretty face to macth her charming character.

I didn’t know that some of the songs I’ve known for years came from that movie (originally a musical). Some of my favorite pieces:

Maria

The most beautiful sound I ever heard:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .
Maria!
I’ve just met a girl named Maria,
And suddenly that name
Will never be the same
To me.
Maria!
I’ve just kissed a girl named Maria,
And suddenly I’ve found
How wonderful a sound
Can be!
Maria!
Say it loud and there’s music playing,
Say it soft and it’s almost like praying.

Maria,
I’ll never stop saying Maria!

The most beautiful sound I ever heard.
Maria.

Somewhere

There’s a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.

There’s a time for us,
Some day a time for us,
Time together with time spare,
Time to learn, time to care,
Some day!

Somewhere.
We’ll find a new way of living,
We’ll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere . . .

There’s a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we’re halfway there.
Hold my hand and I’ll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!

I Feel Pretty

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn’t me tonight.

I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It’s alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I’m real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I’m loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

Tonight

Tonight, tonight,
Won’t be just any night,
Tonight there will be no morning star.
Tonight, tonight, I’ll see my love tonight.
And for us, stars will stop where they are.
Today
The minutes seem like hours,
The hours go so slowly,
And still the sky is light . . .
Oh moon, grow bright,
And make this endless day endless night!

I thought of revamping this page (well, in terms of what I post) so that I could add some oomph to it, because according to JD, I should. He’s been reading interesting blogs I’ve told him about and apparently, he’s also hooked with this guilty pleasure I’ve been keeping to myself these past few months. Now you can tell, I’m really bored. But he tried to buckle backwards and told me it was a joke. I knew it was a joke. It better be. Haha!

But there’s something about reading other people’s thoughts. As much as I enjoy writing – be it free writing, a commentary, a report, or a poem – I find it amusing to read what others have to say.

I’ve listed a couple of reasons why I go online at least twice a day just to read blogs:

Ok.. Before I start, I would like to point out that these blogs are not my friends’ blogs. Don’t get me wrong. I love reading their thoughts as well, and being miles away from them, any update/s are refreshing. It feels like they’re just around the block even though a block = Pacific Ocean.

Moving on, let me rephrase what I just wrote. Here are some reasons why I (yes, these are my opinions) read blogs of people-I-don’t-know:

1. You don’t know what you’re going to get.

There are some people that I really like reading but once in a while, I’d stumble with just a plain, boring, and senseless post. Sometime, the person him/herself (meaning all the posts he or she has posted are all taken into consideration) is just plain crappy. But that’s exactly my point. The spontaneity of it all just makes an interesting read for a v. v. bored guy.

2. Grammar, grammar, grammar.

Nobody’s perfect and I know that. My grammar isn’t 100% perfect all the time but it’s not as bad as some people. Call me judgmental, I could care less. Anyway, some people are really bad. Right Maja? Past, present, future all jumbled together. I cringe at times but then I try to see the bigger picture: thoughts. At least, I’m not hearing them speak. Oh boy.. I’d kill myself if I had to.

3. Contradicting thy self.

I’m guilty of this crime and it’s nice to know that some people are as well. It’s just one of the many facets of life: personal struggle.

4. What a small, small, small world we have here.

Who would have thought? I really like reading this particular blog: some interesting (and scary) posts. After a while, I find out that we were schoolmates before, actually twice, in high school and college.

5. Poetry

Yup. I’m a sucker for all those great play of words. I could just see all the creative juices oozing out of the writer’s brain. Oops, too graphic I guess. Haha! But seriously, the frustrated writer that I am, I really appreciate a good read. However, I find it hard to appreciate Tagalog poetry, maybe because it’s difficult to read them (note: when they use really TTT – tough Tagalog terms).

6. Oh yes, what about love?

Almost all bloggers I know have written about love one way or another: such a common, general, but all encompassing subject. But what makes it more interesting is how people almost always, misconstrue what love really is. The sad reality of it all, they themselves don’t realize that.

7. Of rants and raves..

The very reason why I created my blog in the first place. I wanted a venue where I can just lay out almost everything, yes, I do censor at times. So to hear someone else angry, sad, happy, nostalgic, horny, petrified, stressed out, poignant, blissful, etc. just reminds me how alike we all are. And although people share the variety of emotions, how we deal with it more often than not, defines who we are as an individual.

8. Stepping into a different world.

Just like reading books, reading blogs is like being in a whole different dimension. It feels as if, I get to have a quick glimpse of the life of somebody else. A mixture of reality and fantasy, it gives me a minute or two to step away from my own life, my real demons, my current state. For that span of time, I get to choose what I want or don’t want to believe.

Reading other people’s thoughts is really an interesting way of taking a break from what’s going on with your life. It serves its purpose to a certain extent: to entertain, to sympathize, to inspire, to seek, to reflect. But after all the reading, you go back to what really matters the most: living your own life. For all the pages of books, all the posts that people write, they come and go. Your life, though it may cover many chapters, is bound to end just like the rest of those books and blogs. So yeah, keep reading but keep livin’ as well.

Everybody in the LA office got this e-mail today:

To Whomever was the Recipient of My Lunch,

Wish you had not taken my spaghetti lunch from the refrigerator, but what’s done is done.  However, would you please be so kind as to return my Tupperware container; no questions asked.  Just leave it in the refrigerator.  It would be much appreciated.

(Excuse the message if it does not pertain to you.)

Seriously?!

Got pulled over the other day.

I was driving from the grocery and was heading West of 3rd street. Somehow, this car on my right seems to bug me. Anyhow, I was keeping up with the car in front of me. I was doing 45, just 10 above the speed limit.

All of a sudden, popo(!) on the opposite direction of the street. I slowed down since I was over the speed limit. He made a U-turn and I knew I was busted.

Rob thinking of an excuse.. [But officer, the car in front of me was faster. I didn’t really thought I was going that fast. I’m sorry.]

[Oh, I could possibly meet Lindsay Lohan or Nicole Ritchie. Oops, that’s for DUI. Never mind…]

[I knew it, I called it. I told my friends that my first violation would be overspeading.]

[Why oh why?!]

[He’s coming.. Act normal.]

*Police knocks on my window.

Police: Is this your car?

Rob: Yes..

P: Did you just drive from somewhere?

R: Yes. I just bought something from the grocery.

P: Okay. The reason I pulled you over is because….

[Rob rehearsing his excuse earlier]

R: Uh huh..

P: ..your headlights we’re off.

R: Oh. [Rob feeling stupid]

So yeah.. I got away with a warning. But seriously, headlights?! Bummer..

It’s been a while since I’ve posted something about Tennis. It feels weird. [insert confused look]

Anyhow, Tennis season is almost done. It’s almost time for the last Major of the year, the US Open. Would it be a Roger-Rafa final? Would the Serbians (both Men and Women players) dominate as they have been doing these last few tournaments? Just last week, both Djokovic and Ivanovic lifted trophies at their respective tournaments. Or will champions Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams, Martina Hingis (wohoo! *confetti* –>I’m so biased.. ^_^), Amelie Mauresmo, Andy Roddick, and Lleyton Hewitt run away with the win. And yes folks, I did not mention Justine Henin. Haha!

Personally, I want Rafa and Jelena (or Martina) to win this year. We’ll see..

I also have been playing a lot of tennis these past few weeks. Y’all know how I love the sport so any invitation I surely wouldn’t miss. I’ve been playing pretty consistent these past few matches. 🙂 I’ve won the last three matches with my hitting partner, Joey. I also won against three other people. I did a slight modification with my serve (abbreviated forehand-just like Sharapova’s) and have been successful so far. Aces galore! Haha! But my backhand has a lot of improvement to do and I have to come to the net more often.

With those improvements come some injuries as well. I have been resting for two days straight since I hurt my knee and my finger. I think I almost broke my finger. Still, I can’t wait to hit the courts again. Maybe in a day or so.

Can’t wait for Cal Poly Pomona. I’ll be trying out for their Tennis Varsity team. Wish me luck!

Got this from Janine, who got this from Jasser who got the idea from someone else (I don’t know). Although, I already have heard of this previously from another entry. But knowing me and my short-term memory, I would not even dare to try to remember where I first saw this.

Anyhow, here’s the drill. Think of a certain number of people (in my case, 20) and write some stuff that you want to tell them. The catch: not naming them. So basically, it’s just listing 20 rants/raves about 20 unnamed people.

Personally, I could care less whether people would find out who I’m talking about or what I’m telling them. But oh well.. Just for fun. Here goes:

1. My hands and yours fit perfectly together. I’m just praying that someday we’ll have our chance..

2. I’m glad we’re friends and nothing more than that.

3. I still care a lot about you.

4. You’re the only struggle I’ve got but I’m working on it.

5. Nah…

6. You’re as indecisive as I am, that’s why we’re friends! Haha!

7. I miss you best friend!

8. Hmm.. I wonder how you are. For a second there, I felt you like me more than I liked you. You pretty much got startled when I told you about my girlfriend.

9. I still think about you. Not as often though.

10. C’mon, admit it. Although, I already know.

11. I’m so sorry..

12. I miss you! When are you coming back to L.A.?

13. Is it because I don’t know you? Or maybe because of the stories you tell? Whatever it is, I enjoy your posts. I know I don’t have any right to say this to you but.. if you can, try to smoke and drink less, will you? ^_^

14. Stop driving people away!

15. I should have flirted with you more. (evil smirk)

16. I knew you’d eventually hook up. *confetti*

17. It had to be this way.

18. Well, I miss you. It felt as if I was only beginning to know you.

19. Same old sh*t. I’m tired. Do me a favor and grow up.

20. Lie to me and tell me you love me.

p.s. Ok.. ok, the last line was just fictional. It sounded nice nonetheless. Haha!

So I stumbled upon someone’s blog. Basically it gives a grade as to how blue blooded Ateneans are. You know what I mean. I looked at the list, and of course I knew that some stuff that are not inherently Atenean. So since I was never an Atenean (Go U.P.!! haha) and I’m bored, I’ve decided to mark those items which, in my opinion, applies to Ateneans and other students as well (not only me). Here goes:
